Forget postcard Rome — at night, the city shows its true face. In the glow of the streetlamps, the Eternal City whispers tales of betrayal, murder, and spirits that never quite got the memo about being dead. Guided by our award‑winning storytellers, you’ll wander through alleys and piazzas where history’s ghosts are always welcome… and the living are just visiting.
Along the way, you’ll…
Stand in Campo de’ Fiori, where philosopher Giordano Bruno was flambéed by the Inquisition
Meet the legend of Donna Olimpia, the Vatican’s most feared “Popess,” who still takes the odd moonlit carriage ride
Delve into the scandal‑ridden life of Alessandro Cagliostro, alchemist, conman, and all‑round bad dinner guest
Discover a backstreet church where the art collection is… mostly dead people
Hear about scandal soaked Popes, poisoners, and other residents of Rome who can’t seem to rest in peace
This isn’t a sanitised history lecture. It’s the real, blood‑stained, ghost‑ridden Rome — the one the guidebooks don’t dare print.
We don’t wear capes or jump out from behind corners. What we offer is something far more powerful — a walk through the true, dark history of Rome, told by people who know how to bring it to life.
Often imitated, never replicated: This is the original Rome Ghost Tour — the one others now try to copy and pass off as their own. Accept no imitations.

Our Rome Ghost Tour is an easy 2 hour nighttime walking tour through the historic backstreets of the Eternal City. Led by expert storytellers, it explores real stories of hauntings, murders, executions, and mysterious legends from Rome’s darker past.
The ghost tour begins in central Rome, near Campo de’ Fiori. Full meeting point details are provided upon booking. It’s easy to reach on foot, by taxi, or by public transport.
Not in a jump-scare way — but the stories are definitely eerie. Expect spine-tingling tales, haunting atmosphere, and fascinating facts, all delivered with a mix of drama and dry humour. It’s spooky fun, not horror.
Yes, we’ve had many youngsters who’ve loved the tour over the years, though we recommend it for ages 10+. The content is mature but not graphic, and older children usually love the ghostly legends and theatrical storytelling.
Yes — especially in peak season. Our tours often sell out, so advance booking is highly recommended to secure your spot.
Comfortable shoes are a must — it’s a walking tour on cobbled streets. Bring a bottle of water and check the weather. The tour runs rain or shine!
Currently our Small Group Rome Ghost Tour is only available in English. Our private tours are available in other languages.
Alethea was fantastic. Her stories were great and well organized. She was very entertaining and had a fantastic sense of humor. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour!
I just finished the tour with Ben, and it was amazing and fascinating. Even though the name of the tour sounds dark, there was actually a lot of humor mixed in. Walking through the dark streets with so much deep history, Ben shared stories and interesting details that we definitely would have missed if we were exploring on our own.
It was a small group, but it made the experience even more fun and personal. Ben is hardworking, knowledgeable, and made the whole tour super engaging. It was such a fun activity for our honeymoon!
I went on this tour last night and can’t recommend it enough. Ben was our tour guide and you could tell how passionate he was about what he does. We were taken to many inconspicuous spots throughout Rome that I’d walked by multiple times not knowing their dark history. Our guide’s storytelling kept us entertained throughout the night and our 2 hour tour felt like 30 minutes. It was a mix of frightening facts and humor. After the tour, Ben gave great recommendations for food and drink.
This was honestly the best tour/ experience of our whole trip in Italy. Ariel (sorry if I am spelling that wrong) our guide was so knowledgeable and engaging. It was funny and dark in the perfect amounts with the history being at the centre of the tour and you will learn so much.
I literally cannot recommend this tour enough if you are interested in the darker side of history. I just wish they did tours in England too!!
We LOVED this tour – we learned so much history of Rome in an engaging and entertaining way. It was a rainy evening which set the mood of the tour. Our guide was a great storyteller, it was a small group which I appreciated compared to other walking tours we passed by. Highly recommend!!
